Our first steps
A group of enthusiasts, experienced anesthetists (Kolašinović, Karađenov, Dejanović, Nađević) of the surgical clinic of VMA (Military Medical Academy) established the anesthetist section within the association of nurses of Serbia, in March of 1961. The aim of establishing the section was professional, theoretical and practical specialization of anesthetists.
The first professional work represented as part of the section work, with the topic:
Anesthesia and resuscitation in modern wars – presenter – Kolašinović
Several reports in the field of anesthesia i resuscitation were presented in the course of that year. Work continued in the same manner for the following several years, when, in 1966, the anesthesia section is joined by the transfusionists, forming the section of anesthetists and transfusionists within the Association of medical workers of Serbia.
The first professional meeting of the anesthetist and transfusionist section was held on 21/05/1967 in Osijek.
As a part of 4th Congress of the Association of medical workers of Serbia, a Seminar of anesthetists and transfusionists was held, and was attended by colleague anesthetists and transfusionists from other republics, as well. At that moment they agreed to consider the possibility of establishing a professional association on the level of Yugoslavia.
In February of 1969, at an annual meeting of the section, held in Belgrade, decision was reached to extract the section of anesthetists and transfusionists from the Association of Medical Workers of Serbia and establish the Association of Medical Technicians of Serbia in the fields of anesthesia, resuscitation and transfusion.
